Koozali.org: home of the SME Server

I've been told there are routers that allow a list of ip addresses, (maybe 8 or so) that it will forward a port to.
What if you want to open a port to more than one PC with e-smith? Is that possible?
Or it it possible to allow all traffic on a port to any internal PC that requests it?
This is for ident, btw. Port 113 has no PCs listening unless you run an IRC clent. At which point you need the port open. So I dont consider it a hazard to leave open all the time.
I have dmc-mitel-portforwarding-0.0.1-4.noarch.rpm installed. But it wont allow more than one ip addy with the same port number.
Btw, do ident servers allow you to specify what info is handed out? Is there an ident package for SME that allows you to specify the info?
I dont need fake idents, and if there are more than one user, they'd need there own, so I dont really want to go with ident servers if possible.

Yes.

Yes, it's already installed. For details, see docs under /usr/share/docs/pidentd*. You can either specify the info, or forward requests to internal machines. There's a HOWTO on setting this up here:

Well, I followed the procedure explained in the How to you mentioned. I just copy and pasted each command using putty.
Everything verified, and it looks just like it supposed to. Even rebooted the SME.
But it doesnt work. Connecting to IRC using mIRC doesnt get an identd response. The port isnt open.
The message date (with the instructions) was 07-09-02. So I'd think it would work with the latest updated version SME.
I'm going to have to resort to port forwarding again, and only this one machine will be able to use port 113. I'll keep an eye on other posts in this forum.

Hmm, I think I see the problem. There is no /usr/share/docs/pidentd*
If the docs aren't there, the identd server might not be either. I'll have to track that down...

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=14410.msg54906#msg54906 is a HowTo on ident masqing. Just so you know, I don't really understand how/if it works even. I just wrote up the templates procedure to do what I read in the Wishlist thread...

Try /usr/doc/pidentd-2.8.5/identd.masq.

Lynn, did you ever get mIRC to work on port 113 for identd at the client machine?
