Hi there
I plan to setup a SME server to function almost exclusively as a Backup server to backup other servers and maybe also some workstations.
I would like to use a tape autoloader something like the Powervault 120T DDS with 8 tapes or possibly another model.
In the user manual I can only get references to the 100T model that it is working with SME.
Does anyone know if the autoloaders like the 120T work just as well or some of the other HP models which are similar to the 120T ?
Are there some models which you would say stay away from or that you can recommend working with a standard SME server 5.1.2 OR 5.5 ?
I would like to keep it as simple as possible with as far as possible a standard SME installation/Setup with Flexbackup and still need to buy a tape drive, therefor I'm rather flexable (if you'll excuse the pun).
thanks in advance....
Regards
Paul

Paul,
I don't have any experience with the drives you mentioned, but I can tell you that flexbackup does not (at this point in time) support multiple tapes so it would not work regardless of the autoloader. I also have an autoloader (Exabyter VXA AutoPak 1x10) and have just downloaded the mondoarchive (http://www.microwerks.net/~hugo/) which supports mutliple tapes (and hopefully autoloaders) and will share my experiences soon.

Take my advice. Consider an investment in TapeWare.
Backup is not the place to save money on. Just one successfull recovery may save your a... (and posibly job). Don't gamble with it.

Hi Mark & Boris
Thanks for your advise.....I will indeed follow it up. I couldn't connect www.tapeware.com , but a search on Google indicated that TapeWare could possible work with Tapeware? The message mentioned something like a problem with TapeWare and an Autoloader , but I'm nor sure whether it is because of Tapeware can't handle it just because of a local problem...
But any way, thanks for the advise...
regards

Go to http://www.tapeware.com and download latest evaluation version.
Its good to try and use it for 30 days. If you like it, just buy license, type in serial number and no reconfiguration or recreating jobs needed. We use it to backup range of servers and workstations in the multiplatform environment. Up to 50 slots autoloader included in the basic license. Simple to use and fullfeatured. Tech support is helpfull too. And no, I don't get commisions from them. :-)

I have downloaded tapeware and installed it succesfully but to no avail. It appears that support for Lun needs to be compiled into the kernel. I am not sure what has been put into the SME kernel. Some help woule be appreciated
