Title: Span /home over several disks
Post by: Jesper Knudsen on September 18, 2002, 12:21:29 AM
I have found several Howto's that explain how to add a second disk to my system. What I would like to avoid is to specify which f.ex iBays that should on which physical drive. Can't I span /home over several physical disks ?

I hope anyone can help here.

Thanks,
Jesper

Research on /etc/fstab or /sbin/mount would be very useful ;)

That I also did but I only came up with a static solution where I allocated one disk for users and another for Ibays. What I really would like was to just add another disk and let the server dynamically span over the new. I didnt find that. Any good suggestions ?

Thanks,
Jesper

LVM (logical volume management)  will do the task you are looking for.

The LVM will create a virtual partition over multiple disks or directories.

You will need to install the lvm RPM for the correct redhat version of you SME box.

search rpmfind.net for the necessary files and any search engine for a LVM howto.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your suggestion. I noticed that you raised the question earlier in this forum yourself. Did you succeed on 6.0?
