Title: Can't use Newsgroup Reader
Post by: Dan Williams on October 16, 2002, 02:14:19 AM
Hi,
For some reason, I can not get Agent Newsreader (any news reader) to access the Internet through the e-smith?
Anyone else have this?
Dan

FWIW, I don't--doesn't tell you much, except that it isn't a universal problem.

The only thing that I scenario that I can think of that would 'naturally' occur with SME is if you're using your ISP's newsserver and haven't supplied the full address.

eg.

Telstra Australia calls their news server 'news-server' but in order to access from inside the local network people usually have to specify the whole address (eg. news-server.nsw.bigpond.net.au)

Luke

Hi,
No, it is news.supernews.com
I have tried this on several E-SSmith servers, and it does not work. Even trying the IP.
This is the same on E-Smith Servers that obtain IP through DHCP,as well as static.
I can immediately connect the PC directly to the telus ADSL modem, do a release and renew, and away I go. Go back to the E-Smith, and no go. Can surf etc, just no news server.

Strange as all get out, I am beginning to wonder if this is ISP related DHCP problem.
I just for the heck of it (even though I could browse etc) issued this command at a shell:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart and all is working for the moment
