Title: USB ADSL MODEM Problems

5.2 dosent seem to let me choose the dedicated link via a USB adsl modem. It looks for an ethernet connection. etho and eth1. Any ideas, cause im stuck.

SME 5.1.2 does NOT support pure USB ADSL modems (or any USB modems for that matter). USB support is mostly (only ??) for printers although there's been talk of getting it to support other devices.

Last I heard of someone getting a USB ADSL modem working on his linux distro he had to compile his own customised version of the kernel and do a fair bit of general mucking around in the depths of the system. I doubt you'll get it working without doing the same.

I ran thorugh this ths morning, and it all seemed to work ok,  although I didn't have tme to do extensive tests.

You do have to compile the modem driver, which means loading the compiler etc onto your server.  Remember to remove it afterwards!
