Title: Server Manager
Post by: Tom Docking on November 15, 2002, 08:03:34 AM
G'day all,

I've just gone to use the Server Manager for the first time since installing Update 2, and it seems that Update 2 has broken the Server Manager on my SME 5.5 box.

After putting in the authorisation, I get a 500 error:

"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, admin@docs.gotdns.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

Wading through the logs shows:

[Fri Nov 15 13:37:34 2002] [notice] Apache configured -- resuming normal operations
[Fri Nov 15 13:37:34 2002] [notice] suEXEC mechanism enabled (wrapper: /usr/sbin/suexec)

Can't do setuid

mith/web/panels/manager/html/index.cgi

Which seems to suggest something is wrong with the CGI script, no?

I have attemped to rebuild the templates, using /sbin/expand-template, I have also tried the post-install event (and a reboot), checked the permissions of /tmp and the cgi-bin, checked the disk free space and even installed Update 2 again whilst holding my breath and jumping up and down whilst singing "The 12 days of Christmas."

None of this seemed to help, except the last bit which seemed to raise morale a little.

Any ideas?

Sure did, also a reboot , etc.

I read the CGI script, but it doesn't *appear* truncated or anything. It strikes me as a permission-based problem, however all of the permissions that I have checked seem fine!

Ultimately it just frustrated me; I did an "upgrade" to 5.5 (ie, keeping all settings) and then threw Update1 back on.

All is running nicely again. I will try Update2 later on (not midnight on a Friday/Saturday) and see if the problem reoccurs.

Hi Tom,
sorry for disturbing you that way, but I do have an problem where I can not find an solution but it has nothing to do with this problem in your post. I would like that my SME 5.5 Server is running this weekend, hopfully.
Ok know to my problem:

1. I do have an Fixed IP address excample 217.xxx.xxx.xxx etc. This is assignt to the Zyxel Prestige Router. The SUA configuration or NAT is done for Port 80 and 21.
2. I do have an Checkpoint Firewall ( Sofaware Hardware ), this device is configured that it is in the same mask like the Router. Excample ( Route internal = 192.168.xx.xx Checkpoint= 192.168.xx.xx etc. The firewall reroutes the ip address to range 192.168.10.xx etc. All Clients are in this Mask.
3. The SME Server is in this range as well Excample 192.168.10.xxx etc.

So know to my problem.
When I configure the SME Server and test the internet connection everything works just fine, but when I connect with my Client PC to the SME serve and take a look in the Task Review Configuration then I see in the DNS entry not the DNS entry from my ISP but I do see the local IP address in this field. Why does this happen? Second how can I prevent this to happen? I do know that it may be possible over an Template but i dont know where this Template is hiding, because i'm very new in linux.
Many thanks allready in advanced for answering my Question even I know that i'm not an corporated Company.

I would be happy if you could help me out with this.

Many thanks allready in advanced and have an nice day.
