I am looking to have Internet Explorer Windows Client use the "Automatically Detect Settings" for LAN settings. I see I can download a rpm for this but only for E-Smith 5.1.2. I'm on E-Smith 5.5. Has anybody tried this on 5.5?

File: tmp-mitel-proxy-discovery-0.1-1.noarch.rpm
Thanks

try http://e-smith.dyndns.org/e-smith-squid-0.3-2.i386.rpm, no problem for 5.1.2 or 5.5, or you can refer posts http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=15615.msg60095#msg60095.

Hmmmmm e-smith-squid-0.3-2.i386.rpm is for proxy auth isnt it? I thought it was standard for 5.5 to have this built into it, the Automatically Detect Settings I mean?

yes, you are right, i think this is good for me coz you can have selective user to allow for web access, but if you want to implement "auto detect", you can refer http://www.tech-geeks.org/index.php?page=3 for details.

I already loaded "e-smith-squid-0.3-2.i386.rpm" and it added in Server-Manager" a "Proxy Users" panel. I am also using Dansguardian web filtering rpm. If I check-mark "Automatically Detect Settings" in Internet Explorer, It doesn't get to the internet. If I set it back to "Proxy Server" with the appropriate IP and port, its works fine. I'm trying to configure the clients to use the "Automatically Detect Settings" option. Anybody know how to do this?

Have a look in
/home/e-smith/files/primary/html
you should find a file called
wpad.dat
edit this file
and change the line
return "PROXY wpad.greencare.co.uk:3128";
to
return "PROXY wpad.greencare.co.uk:8080";
