Title: exchange server & e-smith
Post by: Pat Erler on November 18, 2002, 06:11:38 PM
Hi!

is someone using the following setup:

PC1: SME server as PDC
PC2: Exchange Server 2000, getting user authentication from the SME server.

Does it work this way? Can the Exchange Server work as BDC?

regards,

PAT

if I remember my MS course right on Exchange they dont recommend using the exchange server on either pdc or bdc but on a standalone server. Not sure if it was for security or because exchange eats up processor and ram and really doesnt need the extra load of being a domain controller of any sort.

i think the latter, but in times with Ghz and Gbytes this shouldn't be a problem anymore (actually, all of my clients exchange installations are on the PDC).

my question was more directed to the fact, that SME is no Windows 2000 PDC but a samba based PDC, and if this will bring exchange into trouble...

anyone has experience with this setup and can report if it is working?
