OK,
Like many I've suffered because of the open_basedir restriction; I've followed the instructions at http://www.e-smith.org/faq.php3#6q12, and that did not work.
I've read in anopther post that I need to reboot to take effect; but I don't want to reboot the whole system - it's linux for godsake why should I need to reboot? Surely I just need to restart the appropriate service (besides I don't want to lose my uptime stats) - the question is, which service do I restart?
Thanks
Nick.

Nick,
There is no need to re-boot or services to restart. They were restarted when you did
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event ibay-modify your_i-bay_name

Hmmm... well I'll have to try again then, because I'm still getting problems, and I know the php code is fine because I've used it on several other sites on other servers.
:-(

Nick,
What error messages are you getting

Jon,
My mistake. :-$ It is copying the file to the server, but does not seem to be allowing PHP to do anything with it - like get a file size and and create a new resized file (it's an image) from it.
That's a whole new problem.
Thanks for pointing out that I didn't need a reboot.
Nick.
