Title: Upgrades, Bugs and Error Msgs !
Post by: Graham on November 23, 2002, 12:19:46 PM
Hi All,

I eventually got my 5.5 SME to use ISDN thanks to help here :) but
then came across some other problems that effected me :-

The Fetchmail 12 parse error

Add # to line in /etc/fetchtmail
# smtphost $SMTP

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=5147.msg18193#msg18193

I tried this but was kicked out of the office before I could test it
(proof of pudding on Monday a.m)

Before I did this though I went to the blades/update panel and
performed what looked like Upgrade 1 - I cant really remember
what it said but there was only one available so D/L'ed that.

Having searched through these forums somewhat my
attention was drawn to the Bug list page and sure enough
some of my problems where described there and are
categorised as "Fixed in Version 5.6" etc

Is 5.6 really 5.5 with upgrade 1 ?

When I go to any of the download sites is see .iso's all
called 5.5 and on some sites a folder called 'current'
but again the .iso is just called 5.5 (not 5.6 as I would expect?)

Does 'current' include the fixes etc or is it common practice
to install the base point version and then run the updated blade ?

Do the blades address the reported bugs for a given period
(end of every month ?)

Sorry to go on but would like some general feedback
about how best to go about maintaining a stable bug
free server ?

Thanks - this is a great forum !

Graham

There is an update 2 to 5.5 which is not as a blade, is is a series of RPMs.  Details here:

http://www.e-smith.org/article.php3&mode=threaded&order=0

Take note of the '--replacepkgs' parameter to rpm that is needed.

it should sort out your $SMTP problem.

Cheers

Brian

This post on devinfo advises that update1 was part of the original public CD release for v5.5.

As Brian says you should manually apply Update 2

I'm not sure what the situation is at present, but I read some time ago that Blades access was limited to subscription only customers.

I prefer to apply updates manually, I know what's going on then !
