I have added a second hard disk for one Ibay.
I have installed/jumpered the drive.
I have deleted the existing partition, created a new one,
wrote the part. tables to the drive. all went well
I am trying to run mkfs but every time I try it tells
"/dev/hda6/ is mounted; will not make a filesystem here!"
Now I havent added any entries to /etc/fstab yet
When I run df the drive shows up as mounted on "/".
I have tried umount but it reports that the device is busy
As you can tell I am having a baptism of fire with linux.
I havent had but 70 hours of experience.
Can someone explain how to temporarily unmount the drive so that
I may run mkfs and add the entries to /etc/fstab
Thanks

/dev/hda6 is most likely on your primary disk !?

Wesley,
If you search the forums (remember to search all forums and all dates) you should get the steps you require as it has been discussed before.
As Kees said, hda_ most likely refers to your current primary SME drive (which is why it is busy !).

your second drive will likely be /dev/hdb
