Title: memory >1G not detected

We are testing a dual pentium L440 intel server board with 2G
memory. SME 5.5  only detects 1G. I have tried
append="mem=18000M" in lilo, but this does not work
. Is a recompiled kernel  needed.

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping the 2.2.18 kernel
was compiled to acccess 2G.
