Title: cannot reset passwords in 5.5
Post by: Bill Blyth on December 11, 2002, 07:43:54 PM
Hope someone out there can throw some light. I can create users in Server Manager ok but when I come to "reset password" it will not accept any one I give it.The right hand pane just goes white and stays that way. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Can you "reset" the passwd at the command-line?

Rob. Just tried to reset pwd in the command line server manager and that failed. The screen just goes blank and stays that way. Any ideas?

Sorry Rob. I was being thick. Thought you meant Lynx. Yes I can add users and passwords at the command line but they still come up with passwords in red when I go back to Server Manager.

how are your perl skills :-?  -  time to check /etc/e-smith/web/functions/useraccounts and the associated event(s) /etc/e-smith/events/XXX

A simple fix would be to backup and reboot to your 5.5 disk and choose the upgrade option (assuming there are damaged or missing files). However, depending on the addons you use, you might as well reinstall. Unfortunately we have no 5.5 servers installed or we could send you the contents of /etc/e-smith/web/ and /etc/e-smith/events/ and you could overwrite what you have. Perhaps another reader could assist?

tarball it (to preserve permissions)

Thanks Rob. I kind of figured it had to be a corrupt file of some sort.As the install is not mission critical I will take your advice and re-install. Thanks for all your help.
