Title: lost mail
Post by: cyberjoe on December 13, 2002, 01:12:41 AM
I have a SME server 5.12 that has just started losing incoming mail -- the mail  is not being  returned to sender as undeliverable, it  seems to be disappearing, Can anyone tell me how  I troubleshoot the problem,?

Have you checked that it is not being delivered to the admin account.

Check to see if the server has run out of disk space.  You can do this from a shell prompt using the "df" command.  Another symptom of this problem is the server manager dying when you try to access any of the panels.

You should also peruse the logfiles.

This is a known issue. There has been reports in the past (I've also seen it happen myself at a couple of sites). There's no pattern to it. Sometimes, some mail disappears, sometimes only a particular user's mail disappears, and all of a sudden it works perfectly again.

I believe I read in devinfo that that's one of the reasons Mitel moved away from using obtuse to mailfront begining with SME 5.5.

Thanks, I was ready to go radical and do bad things  --  Rebooting the server  seemed to fix it, I've done some cleaning up of the server --   such as removing old accounts -- It was a bad experience. I will upgrade to 5.5 -- btw -- is 5.6 beta? I'm looking now at RAV -- since checking out this forum .
