I was excited to see this distribution because I was looking for something that would allow simple administration of web site page authentication without fumbling around with .htaccess and .htpasswd files......but upon futher review this product lacks the necessary functions to implement user/group/password access per i-bay via the browser.......I REALLY like this distribution, but it falls short in this department. Guess i'm gonna go back to my original idea of using a canned PHP script and redhat....
-
YES, i know i can set it up an i-bay to be password protected via the brower local and/or private. BUT, i don't want to be limited to ONE "user, ie. i-bay name" and ONE password.....

if u run your php script on an sme server you get all the benefits of that without having to spend ages locking down a redhat setup.
dont be in too much of a hurry to discount sme - it has a lot going for it.

Please read this URL, it got all the things you need :
Problem: You would like to have full .htaccess support, but SME doesn't give you this.

It work well with all from 5.0 to 5.5
Hope this will help.

Also, after install the .htaccess support, you can manage the .htpasswd and .htaccess by one single php script (a GPL php script, it is a nice script). ;-)

SMEserver is a very good Linux System (or you may even take it as a "Box") try before you quit...... get to the conclusion to soon will only make you lost some good things in life¡K¡K. (from my true experience¡K¡K. Believe it or not¡K¡K)
