The new samba suite is out with fixes for windows 2000 clients is there any chancewe can get some instructions or maybe an e-smith rpm so we can do this simply and quickly. My job as an it-manager-trainee may very well depend on this
-
Hi,
just do a rpm -e --nodeps samba samba-common and install the new Samba 2.2.0 rpm from samba.org, there is a rpm for RedHat 7.0 that works fine for me with e-smith 4.1.1

Geeeeezzz ..Either learn faster or get another job would be a good idea .....
See answer above, it works very well

Learning as fast as possible. Under staffed and under funded department that is growing rapidly and requires centralized server with no money to buy one

I get errors when I try to install the upgrade package. I copy the link location from my browser and in my telnety client i have tried rpm -uvh and rpm -ivh folowed by the link. It downloads the file and attempts to install it but it says it conflicts with samba client 2.0.7? Any suggestions I have tried the ubove command and still no go.
Thanks

justin, read tina's post. do _not_ upgrade. it will not work. erase the original samba, (follow commandline instructions given in tina's post), install new samba.

I read Tina's post, and it didn't work. I also had to rpm -e --nodeps samba-clients before I could install samba-2.2.0 (which I did with -Uvh out of force of habit).

I erased samba client and got the s.s to install. However the usernames don't work you have to log on as samba with no password. how do I change this. Also I still can't get win2k to join the domain still getting the credentials error.

I don't know about win2k, as I haven't gotten it working yet. However, I think removing either samba-common or samba-clients nukes your smbpasswd file, so you'll need to rebuild it by resetting the password for all your users.

Hi
I followed Tina's suggestion, I downloaded an rpm for RedHat7 but when I try
to install it, using
rpm -ivh -nodeps samba-2.2.0.......
The installation script stops with the following errors
/etc/samba/samba.xinetd no such file or directory
/etc/samba/samba.stack no such file or directory
Is there some other package to install ?
Thank you
Bye
