Title: Win95 access
Post by: Matt Thompson on January 03, 2003, 02:26:41 PM
Hi,
I have been using SME for some time with win98 and there have been no problems. However I have just noticed that win95 cannot see or access the server though Network Neighbourhood. It can ping it.
Is SME compatible with Win95?
Regards,
Matt

Win95 and Win98 are essentially the same. I'm guessing you have an incorrect setting on the Win95 box somewhere. Are you using the SME as a DHCP server? If not, do you have the WINS Server address specified for the Win95 box? Do you have the correct workgroup name specified?

I found it's to do with passwords in win95, the problem seems to be that win95 uses encrypted passwords and win98 doesnt.

On the win95 CD the is a program to unencryptall passwords, i did that with mine in the early days and i could logon fine after that.

If your not sure search on google

Hope this help's

If you can not see the server in Network Neighbohood yet you can map a drive by typing in a path (\yourserver\yourshare) then 9 out of 10 times the WINS setting is what is wrong. With 95 adding the server you are using for your logins as the WINS should work.

Cheers guys, I'll try and locate the password unencrypter and try that later.
