A friend of mine has installed the latest evaluation version of RAV on a 5.1.2 server. While checking that it was working, I sent the EICAR test to my account on the server (from outside), but it didn't pick it up.
In checking the logs, I found:
LICENSE LIMIT: the mail ... was not scanned!
The program was only installed last week, so it hasn't passed its 30 day period. I haven't had any time to dig into this so far, but wondered if anyone had come across this? The docs say that the evaluation version is fully functional out of the box, but this obviously isn't!
Thanks,

Hi Des,
Are you installing RAV manually or using Darrell May's RAV add-on ? I have not tried a manual RAV install but do know that Darrell's RAV add-on does work for the 30-day eval period (though I don't leave it till the last minute to register).

Is the server in question hosting more than one domain? The eval version is good for one domain (in and out) yourdomain.com and mail.yourdomain.com will only be scanned--others will give the license limit error I think.

Discussion of non-free software isn't really appropriate for this board. Please ask your questions about proprietary software within the forums provided by that software's vendor.
Thanks

Nate is correct. The LICENSE LIMIT error means a mail message with a domain value other than the *two* you are allowed in the demo version has passed thru the RAV scanner. You may change the domains of course by editting the domains file in the /etc/opt/rav folder and then restart the engine with /etc/init.d/ravmail restart.

Oh, I forgot to mention that there appears to be a bit of an issue with the RAV and e-smith 5.1.2. It was working fine for me during my demo period but when I reinstalled it on a fresh 512 I was getting some notification looping - searching their site there is infact a patch specifically for an e-smith 512 installation! After running that the problem appeared to have disappeared, tho I only had it running for a couple of days. I now have it on a 5.6 test box and is running fine, so far.
Finally Des, when the 30 days expired, you will know as the admin messages are quite clear!

Very many thanks to all who replied with assistance, and apologies to Charlie for the misuse.
The domain name was wrong, which caused the problem.
