Straight out of the box. E-smith (as do all distributions, AFAIK) will recognize SMP-aware motherboards/BIOSes. This is true even if the system has a single processor, but has an additional empty slot. When you boot e-smith you will see two choices on the splash screen - e-smith and e-smith-up (for uniprocessor).

yes it does :o)
you will have 2 options:
1. esmith
2. esmith up

maybe it just boot with esmith up.
in that case set "esmith-up" as default in:
/etc/lilo.conf
after that run /sbin/lilo
boot again and it will work with esmith up as default.
