Title: Squid Proxy Serve on SME 5. 6 Server Only Box
Post by: Kingnubian on January 29, 2003, 06:23:13 AM
I have an SME 5.6 box running in server only mode sitting on a small network behind an SMC router. I wish if possible to setup a proxy server on the SME box.(BTW,  I noticed that since my upgrade from 5.5b7 to 5.6 that Squid now seems to start at bootup but there are no settings available in the server manager.). How can I go about setting up and using the included Squid Proxy server on my internal server only box.

Just fill in the proxy-settings in your users' browsers.
(ip-address of your server, port 3128 )
that should do it.

According to the 5.6 Admins guide:- "You do not need to do anything to configure your client web browsers to use the caching proxy server. It is automatically enabled and is transparent to your users"

If I were you I would have a look at the squid logs - you might find that you are in fact already using the proxy function.
