Same Problem, Just started..
if it helps this is after a several hour power outage here.

do you have RAV anti virus installed by any chance?

I uninstalled RAV antivirus and the same error "Temporary sendmail failure" shows up in /var/log/maillog. The uninstall consists of
rpm -e dmc-mitel-rav
rpm -e ravqmail
rpm -e ravmd
rpm -e ravcore
Currently running sme 5.1.2

Anybody have any ideas?
