Title: HDD problem
Post by: Jáder Marasca on February 17, 2003, 12:28:37 AM
Hi,

I have one SERIOUS problem.

One server of my clients has the filesystem broken!
I tried?
fschk.ext2 /dev/hda -p -c -f -v  (by phone with him!)

but nothing. I have a backup from 2 days ago... but client would like to now loose anything. What I can do to retrieve some data from EXT2 filesystem before do a complete restore (I have ways to do it in 20 minutes by phone!)

Thanks!

Jáder

Mount a new primary drive drive with a fresh install of SME. Then mount the existing drive as a second drive (if it is OK0 and copy over your data.

But my problem it´s the volume not mounting... it ask for root password and enter in maintenance mode!

I think that you can try
e2fsck /
or
fsck /

to check the root filesytem. Not sure if it will help, but I fixed a disk with it. Have a read on the forums - there is some stuff around.

I was able to recover FS with fsck /dev/hda and just press enter when it stops!
I´m a lucky guy and do not lost anything!

NOW I´ll have daily backup of critical data!

Thanks!
