Title: SCSI tape backup time
Post by: Lars Kemper on February 23, 2003, 06:38:04 PM
Hi all,

The erasing of a tape takes most of the time of making a backup. Is it necessary to erase each tape each day? The total time of making a backup is 2 hours and 45 minutes, the actual backup time is like 15 minutes.

I'm using e-smith version 5.5, with a U160 controller and 2 U160 disks in a RAID 1 configuration, a HP C1537A DDS-3 SCSI internal tape drive and a SCSI cd-rom.

Thank you,

Lars

Hi all,

found the error myself. This server was upgraded from a IDE tape unit to a SCSI tape unit. The setting for flexbackup was changed to erase a tape before starting a backup. Changed it back and now the backup's run normal.
