Howdy yall,
Now we have several groups and I found out that you can send an email to (name of the group)@(your domain).com and I happily added which users I wanted to be in which group.
Well ages ago I removed 2 users, properly from the users panel of the server manager, and now when I send email to the group address I get 2 bounces:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at langs.net.au.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
username@esmith.langs.net.au:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)
And this is correct, there is no user account by that name, but why in gods name it it send it to it in the first place? OK so I go to the groups panel and take a look and see if I can remove the non-existant user manuall, but of course, because it doe not exist, it does not show in the groups panel when I click on the modify link for that group?
So how do I remove that non-existant accunt from the group if it does not show when i click on the modifiy for the group under the groups panel?
And from now on do I need to remove any users from the groups they are in before deleting their accounts?
Thanks for your help.

Cyrus,
If you can replicate this behaviour on another SME server, then you have probably found a bug (which should be reported to bugs@......). If it were a one off, perhaps one of the templates got changed somehow ?

Try:
/sbin/e-smith/db accounts delete xyz
where xyz is the old user account name. I think that will remove it from it's group memberhips.

Cyrus
This may have something to do with a bug in 5.5
see
http://www.e-smith.org/bugs/index.php3?op=showBug&bugID=90
or a search would have found

From the command line try issuing a:
# /sbin/e-smith/db accounts delete xyz
where xyz is the user-deleted account
I think that should remove them from the group membership as well......
Remember to do a search first, (on all dates) and look at the bugs pages too !!

Hi,
I am at SME 5.6 and still see this same behavior. So there is evidently a bug. My situation:
Added a user X and later deleted this user. It turns up that I need a user X anyway, so I try to create a new user X. but the system gives me this error:
Error: the account "X" can't be created because there is already a user-deleted account of that name.
This is probably also the root to the problem described in this topic. Users do not get properly deleted from the system.
I hope someone takes notice and remedies the situation in subsequent rel.
Thnx
