Title: Incompatibility - v5.12 with Intel Board D845GLLY
Post by: J Hicks on February 28, 2003, 07:10:32 PM
Tried installing v5.12 (and 4.12) with this intel mainboard but after installation get IRQ probe errors followed by disk mount failures. 5.6 does work, however the customer has specified 5.12 and we must get it to work with an Intel board.

We've tried to find a current intel board that offers full linux support but are sceptical about the phrase "limited driver support" associated with many of intels new product line.

If anyone is aware of a current board that supports the older esmith release, or is aware of somewhere that holds this sort of information it would get me out of a nasty hole.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

I am sure that there are other messages on this board about this subject if you search for them.  Basically, the Intel 845GL, 845PE, etc, chipsets are newer than the kernel so that it will not correctly identify the hardware.  You will need an older motherboard perhaps one with an 845D or 845E chipset.  Again, search the forum for other users experience.

Here is a bit of information on Intel's site.
More of Graphics, and sound info

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/linux/

The 810/815 chipset appear to support the 2.2 kernel, though I have only installed SME5.1.2 it on an 810 chipset myself.

If the 815 chipset supports SME5.1.2, then you could purchase a PIII mobo from intel that is current.
