I applied the Charlie Brady work around rpm packages. I noticed I'm logging a lot of information. Does anyone know if these were for debugging only? Can I uninstall them with rpm -e xxx.rpm? Thanks in advance.

Which version do you have? My guess is, not 1.0.1-2es.
* Mon Feb 24 2003 Charlie Brady 1.0.1-2es
- Disable debug logging, which is a bit of a performance hog.
* Tue Feb 18 2003 Charlie Brady 1.0.1-1es
- Use newer version of the patch, from reference in Linux VPN
Masquerade HOWTO.
* Fri Jan 24 2003 Charlie Brady 1.0.0-5es
- Add unregister of gre protocol handler, and avoid some bogus
debug messages.
* Fri Jan 24 2003 Charlie Brady 1.0.0-4es
- Add GPL licensing, and enable debug.

They're all just for debugging.

Thanks Charlie. I installed 1.0.0-4es. I updated to the latest version. Do you know what will happen when a premanent fix is released and a macine was modified with these fixes?

Charlie Brady said these are for debugging, isn't that clear to you.
See this thread (which was also started by a Charlie).
Outgoing VPN PPTP on 5.6 seems to work OK once you apply the bug workaround. I have not tried incoming on a v5.6 box as yet.
