Title: DYNDNS.ORG now offers "mydomain.com" service
Post by: Milan Stejic on April 27, 2001, 09:06:03 PM
DYNDNS.ORG started offering full DNS hosting about a month ago.  It should now be possible to to have the domain "mydomain.com" insetad of "mydomain.dyndns.org" for a $30 one time donation.  The announcement is in their news section dated 26 March 2001.

The automated mail they send when you subscribe includes this note:

Clients for the Dynamic DNS system will NOT work with Custom DNS natively.  Client authors have been notified of the new specs and will hopefully be releasing clients that support Custom DNS soon.  Please DO NOT attempt to use clients which do not explicitly support Custom DNS to update a Custom DNS host.

Has the client used for dyndns.org been updated to use custom DNS?

I'm looking forward to the response :-)

FYI

DNS2GO.COM offers this service for free and has a redhat linux rpm client that works great on the e-smith box. I am an e-smith/linux newbe and found it quite easy to install and configure the client. RIght now their linux client only supports updating one domain, however they are working on a client that will support mor ethan one domain for virtual hosting etc. You can do it now if you want to run your primary on tthe esmith box and their windows client on one of your windows boxes or a second linux box behind e-smith
