I just installed a fresh 4.1.2 e-smith server only configuration.
It has a real domain name and all that fun stuff. Under workgroups, I set the workgroup to MYLAN and the same is true for the Win2k PC's. I have no need for a domain master, so that is off.
But the esmith box is not showing up in the computer near me or any other place for that matter. If I do \192.168.x.x it shows up fine. I have quadruple checked the workgroup names and everything is right.
This worked fine with 4.1.1. I am now sharing the drives and printers using the IP address, it works, but I really need to get the workgroup stuff showing up. What gives.
Thanks for the help.

"workgroup" is a netbios name not a "domain" name
so if your win2k pcs are configured to log on to a domain you should provide a real domain name to search for, and a dns server ip to get name resolution
so your e-smith should be domain master and your clients dns queries should be directed to your dns server (e-smith)

The Win2k pc's are not set up to connect to a domain. They just have workgroups. I have been doing this for quite some time now. And it worked with 4.1.1. something has changed with 4.1.2, but I can not find what is broke. I just reinstalled the 4.1.2 server, and same problem. The shares from the 3 different PC's all show up on eachother, only the e-smith box shares don't show up.
Basicly, it is doing exactly what it would be doing the worng workgroup name was entered on the e-smith box. But I have the same exact workgroup name as on the pc's. Checked and rechecked many times.
Thanks

Do you have NetBeui installed on the Win2k machines?
