Title: qmail customization - please help
Post by: Barrett on March 16, 2003, 03:50:03 AM
Hi all,

Trying to figure out how to alias in qmail. I host several small websites and webmail for friends.  I don't want their e-mail to look like it is coming from my site, I want it to look like it is coming from their site.... how can this be done?

I have researched and found that qmail-default is the answer but apparently e-smith sets that up once for everyone on the box, not individually in their home dirs.  I am not sure how the template system works well enough to change that so if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I don't mind using a work around either, I will just take notes of what I changed so when I do an update I can change it back.

Thanks,

Barrett

Configure their mail programs (including webmail) to use their virtual domain as the sender (From) address.  It has nothing to do with qmail.

Thanks fot the info but how do I accomplish this?  Sorry, I am newbie :)

I thought SME (e-smith) used qmail as the mail server and IMP for the webmail support, is that incorrect?

Anyway, the changes you suggest, do I change this from the GUI server-manager or is this something I need to change via terminal session?

Barrett,
Configure the email clients on the workstations, i.e. Outlook/Outlook Express/Netscape, etc. with "From" and/or "Reply to" address as user@virtualdomain.com. You should not need to do anything through server-admin except create the user accounts. If you use the webmail interface, log into the user mail account and go to Options---Identities and change the "From" and "Reply to" there as well.

Good luck,
jim
