Title: Adding windows 2000 server to a SME domain?
Post by: Lasse Johansson on March 18, 2003, 06:40:27 PM
I've been asked to install a Windows 2000 server, service pack 3, which is supposed to be added to the domain as a database/fileserver.

I have read the manuals and how-tos regarding adding Windows 2000 machines to the domain, but I can't see anywhere the SERVER version mentioned.

Has anybody gone through this?

Is it possible, or should I persuade the folks here to sell that 2000 server...?

It should be possible to add the Windows 2000 server to the domain as long as you set it up to operate with non Windows 2000 only domains. Dont have my test server running here right now or I'd point you to the exact point in the server config for Win 2K but to all intents and purposes what you are trying to do by adding it to the SME domain is the same procedure as you would follow adding it to a Windows NT 4 domain. Should be more info on problems etc on the Samba website.

As long as the server is operating in hybrid and not native mode, it shouldn't be a problem.
