In a previous message on the above subject (03-31-01), Charlie Brady stated :-

Failing that, you will have to make a custom template containing the local (and perhaps remote IP
address) of the PPP link.
Create a directory /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/diald-conf.
Create the file pppd-options in that directory contianing:
pppd-options name "{ $DialupUserAccount }" noauth x.x.x.x: ipparam diald
------------------
Having sucessfully installed e-smith on a small network with a dial-up dynamic IP, I now intend to install e-smith on another system with a permanent dial-up (modem) connection. As this is part of a dedicated subnet (255.255.255.248), I will probably need to include both the external IP address and IP mask as well as the dedicated IP address included above.
Before starting the installation of e-smith, could someone (Charlie ?) please advise me what additional instructions are required in the above custom template to accomplish this. (just in case both additions are needed)
Many thanks for any help.

If your PPP provider is competent, it will "just work" correctly out of the box.

Thanks Charlie - you were correct.
Apart from a very slight problem with an external proxy server, everything worked OK.
e-Smith is certainly a very easy server to set up and highly recommended.
