Greetings. has anyone tried installing 5.6 on this machine. Have a strange problem. I know that the installation kernel only uses the first processor. however, after running the installation, get a message from the rom the processor 2 has failed. If I power cycle the machine, it usually comes back. during the installation, aa smp capable board is detected, however, only the single processor kernel is installed. I currently have two matched p ii 450 mhz processors. I installed both processors in another machine to ensure they were both working correctly and they seemed to be fine. however, after using the installation and rebooting, I always get a message that the second processor has failed. wonder if there is some bug in the firmware on the mother board. got would really like to get the smp kernel going on this machine I realize it is an old machine but just wondered if anyone else has tried using one and if there were any similar issues. ON the week end, I will try 5.5 and see if it is any different although I really don't think it is a sme problem but rather related to the board and how it handles booting with a single processor. would be interested in any comments.
thanks. brian.

I would be sure to use a recent version of Smartstart and set up the CMOS on the machine to be used under Linux....

It does it on Proliant 1600 Dp machines as well. Mind you so does RH 8. Just run the SmartStart and tell it that you've fixed the processor, and all is well. It only appears to happen during the initial install

I have got the same problem with 5.6 on a toshiba magnia 3010
server. After trying installing with 5.5 ; there where no problems any more. So it has to do with 5.6 version
Try this on your proliant
