Title: VPN 5.5 says no answer
Post by: Mark on April 11, 2003, 04:01:36 AM
Using e-smith 5.5 with update3 and w2k client.  PPTP is turned on with 4 connections allowed.  Client firewall is not installed.  Searched other VPN posts and such but didn't see similar problems.  Can't figure out why it says "There Was No Answer."  Any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to say that the server pings fine.

Are you connecting through a router? If so, you need to open the port for pptp.

Thanks for the response.

The server runs as a server/gateway and only a cable modem is between it and the internet.

However, I did open the tcp port 1723.  Did not work though.

Uninstalled zonealarm completely and I do have SP2 for win2k.

Still stumped.  Need to figure out of Comcast/AT&T prevents TCP 1723 from being used.

VPN needs 128 bits encryption on your client side. Otherwise the connection is rejected.

I don't think the server is there for the client to engage.

Also, I have the 128 bit encryption setup already.
