Has anyone managed to get the APC 700VA SMART-UPS running with powstatd on 5.6?

TIA.

Hi Chris,

Sorry, I have to ask.

If you have an APC Smart UPS, why aren't you using apcupsd ?

By the way, I have used the SmartUPS 700VA with apcupsd and it works well.

Does the smart-ups have a serial port then?

What are you guys doing re UPS's with USB only

I'm not using anything at the moment.  I just wanted to know if the 700VA worked with 5.6 and power monitoring software before I go out and buy one.

I now know the answer!

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Rob,

I was trying to get apcupsd under the older SMEs to work with USB UPSes with no luck. However, I believe there is a newer apcupsd that works with kernel 2.4.x that does work with USB APC UPSes. Haven't gotten around to testing again though.

What version of apcupsd are you using ?

I´m trying to install my BackUPS 600ES with apcupsd from Darrel May (3.8.5) and later un upgrade to 3.10.5 but with no luck...

Can you help me ?

Thanks!

hi

Darrels contrib only works with serial cables not USB cables. Don't know of a contrib for USB yet

nut is on 5.6 - http://www.exploits.org/nut/

don't know if it handles USB

Hi Jader / Rob,

Rob's right.

Only the current apcupsd (not the ones available from Darrell) will support USB but I have not seen anyone create a contrib for it yet and I have had too many things happening to get back into it.

As Rob says, nut is in SME 5.6 and by default, it is set up for USB support. I've been playing with nut lately (to try and get a Sola 510 to work - but could not) and it looks useful but as I could not find any documentation about it with regards to the SME implementation of it (ie. what db settings to set to do what ?????), I've only been experimenting by bypassing all the templates and working with the commands directly at the console.

Hi Rob & Kelvin & others....

I installed Darrel contrib (to have SME panel) and a new apcupsd package (3.10.5 and Darrel cames with 3.8.5!) to try to enable my BackUPS 600ES... even follow Darrel tips about to use usb as cable type and ups type... but nothing...
I also wrote to Darrel forum and I´m waiting his answer ...
I´ll let this forum know the Darrel answer (if it do not answer it here too!) :-)

Thanks!

Jáder

Just to let ALL of you to know: DARREL MAY NEVER answered my question on his own forum!

Just look at: http://myezserver.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=376

I´m trying... but I cannot get it working...

Anyone else has another idea?

Thanks!

Try "nut" - part of fully upgraded 5.6. It's disabled by default, but you should be able to work out how to enable it - it's just like all other services, controlled by the config db.

rpm -qd nut

Certainly not true. For example, search for "nut" at rpmfind.net.

> What kind of web interface it has?

As we configure it, none.

I think you mean "how do I enable it?".

/sbin/e-smith/config set nut service status enabled
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot
