Title: pop3, webmail, and duplicate emails
Post by: Brad Jennings on April 16, 2003, 10:59:12 AM
I know someone put up a post about 5.6 and pop3 email clients receiving duplicate email messages if you have your client leave messages on the server and you login later on using the webmail.  Is there any sort of fix for this problem...other than "use IMAP"?

as far as i can tell -- it's not an error, so how can there be a fix? if you tell a pop3 client to leave mail on the server, it will, and will show up in webmail. either (a) use imap, or (b) turn the 'leave mail on server' off.

On 5.5, I could leave a copy on the server for like 5 days....check email with the pop3 client....and it would leave a copy out there like it should.  Then check it with the webmail, logout ...go back to your pop3 client and only get new messages.  But on 5.6 if you do that, it leaves the copy out on the server....and if you login using the webmail, log back out, and then check it with your pop3 client, you get duplicates of some of the same emails that you already downloaded with your pop3 client.

Brad,

I am having this same problem.  Did you ever find a solution?

Thanks,

This wasnt a problem in earlier version of esmith.

Older version use to mark the email read if either read or downloded by a client.

Dont know why this doent do it in 5.x etc....
