Title: TCP/IP CP reported error 718
Post by: Graham on April 24, 2003, 11:15:13 PM
Hi all,

I am having major problems with PPTP that I don't think are connected with the published bug redarding intermittent problems.

I have not been able to sucessfully set up a VPN since using SME 5.6.
I am using the same client and software as I was with 5.5, but I now get the following.

Verifying Username and Password...
Registering your computer on the network...

Then a dialog box appears:

Checking network protocol connections...
TCP/IP CP reported error 718: Timed out waiting for a valid response from the remote PPP peer.

Any sugestions?  I currently have allowed 2 PPTP connections and I am the only person using it.

Thanks

Have you resolved this?  I am having the same problem from XP... windows 2K works great.  Used to work in XP.

.. try setting a few extra users in the allowed PPTP connections box - I found that if I dropped a connection and reconnected straight away it would knock me back as the SME box takes a while to clean up the old connectionstuff.
