Title: Laptop Boot failed cont..
Post by: s b on April 27, 2003, 05:03:47 PM
Trying to install 5.6 onto a cdromless laptop. Got a Xircom 10/100 56k modem/LAN card. Appears to be on the HCL.

I created the pcmcia.img and bootnet.img disks and they all fail with "Boot failed : please change disks and press a key to continue". The diskettes are error free. This happens when the dots get halfway across the screen in the line beginning "loading vmlinuz......" Happens with either the PCMCIA or the bootnet.img disks.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Have you already used this CD to install on another CPU?
If yes...
Please try to create a disk with boot image file and boot from it.
Just to be sure you can boot...

And create a disk from pcmciaadd.img file... you can need it later...

If no...
You can also try to get a new copy of SME (or if you like I can send you only the bootnet.img and pcmcia.img files... just provide me an email!)

Are you using rawwritewin to generate this disks from image?
