I am going to install perl-DBI-1.35-2 from
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/Development_Languages_Perl.html
But there are 2 links... i386 and i686...
Which one should I be choosing for SME 5.6 running on a Pentium3?

But wait... ftp://ftp.e-smith.com/pub/e-smith/releases/5.6/SRPMS/ show the following files...
perl-DB_File-1.75-34.99.6.i386.rpm
perl-DBI-1.21-1.i386.rpm
Then I assume that DBI is already installed?!
I am preparing to install Macurious Spider from http://www.castreal.com/macurious/spider/installation.htm
It says:
>Please follow these steps to install Macurious Spider Search Engine. Before you >begin, we assume that you already setup your SQL database on your server.

SME 5.6 includes these files:
mysql-3.23.49-3.i386.rpm
mysql-devel-3.23.49-3.i386.rpm
mysql-server-3.23.49-3.i386.rpm
mysqlclient9-3.23.22-6.i386.rpm
I assume that MySQL database is already setup then.
It says:
>Firt thing you must do before you install Macurious Spider is to make sure you
>already install Perl DBI module and its respective SQL drivers
What are 'the respective SQL drivers'?
It says:
>If you have not install the DBI module and its
>DBD drivers
Isn't perl-DB_File-1.75-34.99.6.i386.rpm the DBD drivers?
Sorry for all the questions, but I just don't want to mess up!

Well answer to the original question.
On a pentium 3 you can use the i386 or i686 files, how ever the 686 files should give you a bit better performance because they were compiled with all the "686" switches.
randy
FYI:
I think that pentum pro, pentium 2,3 and 4 all have the 686 features.
pentum 1 are 586... or at least some of them are... Mabey it is the socket 5 pentums are 586 and the socket 7 pentums are 686?
This last bit is jsut me ramblin.. casue i realy cant remember.
good luck to you

Pentiums are i586
Pentium II and Pentium III are i686
Pentium IV, I do not know.
Cheers.
