Title: Concurrent Logins
Post by: Walter Padgett on April 30, 2003, 08:45:10 PM
Good Morning,

This posting is in regards to the proxy-auth module. I have created two generic user accounts so that students can access the Internet. Evidently there is a limit on concurrent logins. I didn't find anything in the 5.6 documentation nor the proxy-auth documentation that detailed that type of information. I don't know exactly how many are able to get on at one time but I do know that two out of three labs were not on the Internet due to this issue.

On another note, does the proxy-auth contribution deny access to programs such as the WeatherBug and the likes?

This posting is short and sweet to hopefully elicit some replies. Evidently my other emails were either too much information or I sounded condescending. I'm just a regular guy looking for ideas and suggestions.

Have a great day!

Walter,

I use the squid proxy auth rpm from www.e-smith.dnydns.com and know that it does not block any ports, it only stops access to ftp and http requests that are not authenticated, hope that helps. About the concurrent user issue I dont have a clue, sorry :-(.

We have a generic student login "student" that is used in our labs. So far we have had something like 100-120 concurrent logins with no issues. I dont recall having to change anything to allow that (fresh install in January) though.
