Title: ISP closed tcp/ip port 25 on router
Post by: Mikael on May 02, 2003, 12:21:25 AM
The server is installed in server/gateway mode. The mail server can’t recieve mail from the internet. Intranet is OK!! The problem is, that my ISP for security reasons have closed tcp/ip port 25 on their routers. They (ISP) suggest I configure a secondary mail server in DNS. It goes something like this:

mail.domain.dk. IN A x.x.x.x
domain.dk. IN MX 10 mail.domain.dk.
domain.dk. IN MX 20 backup-mx.post.tele.dk.

I use PuTTY to connect to the SME Server (5.6u). I browse the directories with Midnight Commander uses the included viewer and editor. How do I configure the DNS? Is there a file, that I have to edit?

Best regards!

Mikael

The SME doesn't do public DNS. You'd have to edit that through whoever does your DNS. Someone like ZoneEdit.

Use the 'hostnames and addresses' part of server-manager to make the address available on the Internet (provided you are in server / gateway mode).

Thanks for your help! I contacted “wannafind.dk” and they made the edit in DNS. I can receive mail via the SME server now!

Have a nice weekend!!

FYI, this will only work in the Service Link supported version.
