Title: Enable Tape backup
Post by: Joseph on May 02, 2003, 01:22:13 AM
Hi,
Is there a way to enable tape backup but NOT schedule a backup time?  I would like the ability to backup when ever i feel like.

Thanks
joseph

Use a different backup such as Arkeia from Shad Lords.
It can be scheduled similar to flexbackup or you can do a manual backup.

Joseph,

You could also install Darrell May's Advanced Backup Panel which gives you the additional options of performing a backup ad-hoc as well as selective restores using flexbackup.

To stop backup from running at the scheduled times, you will need to modify the templates and remove the backup job cron entry.

I'll look into arkeia.  But for dmay's advanced backup, you still need to enable tape backup, which in turn schedule's for everynight.

Joseph

If you go the Arkeia way do a search in thes forums on arkeia as there are some useful poniters on its use in older posts from me & others

Re flexbackup; Ed's point about just leaving the tape out is a good way to stop the backup actually occurring.
Note in arkeia there is tick box to choose whether to eject the tape after backup has completed. If you have a backup scheduled then you will get a reminder message if the tape has been ejected, this prevents yesterdays backup being overwritten and also prompt syou to put anothe tape in.

As mentioned Arkeia has an option to "backup now", and you can also exclude folders from the backup (search other posts for details on this).
