Title: autoresponder
Post by: Sergei Slobodov on May 10, 2001, 08:23:11 PM
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone had setup a vacation autoresponder with e-smith 4.1 or higher? I found a contrib package by Daniel van Raay, but it is said to have been tested for 4.0.1 only, so I'm afraid to try it on 4.1 for fear of breaking something?

Any advice?

Thanks,
Sergei

It doesn't break anything, but it doesn't work in 4.1.x, at least not
straight out of the RPM.  It worked very nicely in 4.0.x, but the
authour has said it needs revision for 4.1.x.  It seems very simple to
set up manually but it's eluded newbie me so far, something in
permissions or paths may have changed.

from the dev-info list

Managed to get e-smith-vacation-0.1-1 on e-smith 4.1.1 (will be upgrading
to 4.1.2 very soon).  I got the auto-response confirmation by adding the option -j to the vacation
" | /usr/local/bin/vacation -j username"

I think this option enables reply to all senders.

Thanks for helping.

Best regards,

How much work would be involved in modifying the user template to add "on vacation till" line, and have the template expansion script to create all the necessary files, such as .vacation.msg, .vacation.aliases (generated from the list of user aliases and virtual domains), .qmail?

Alternatively, it would be user-editable, like password change... Just go to www.yourdomain.com/e-smith-vacation, enter you password and edit your vacation message.

Am I dreaming?

Someone's written a contrib module for this.  You can see it at http://www.e-smith.org/contrib/modules_search.php?op=searchResults

I haven't used it so I don't know how good it is, but it's certainly worth checking out.  My guess is that it should do what you want with little or no modification.

it works great in 4.0x, but needs a little work for 4.1x (-j and/or permissions, search phorum) and is (as yet) accessed from the manager panel not user direct
