SME 5.1.2 Server and Gateway
PPTP VPN connection is made, then I make a terminal services connection to a SBS 2000 server. The problem is that the
TS session will terminate after 10 minutes. I have tested the connection
also to a dedicated Terminal Server behind the SME box, same result
disconnects after 10 minutes. It appears the Terminal Server is
not getting some keepalive packets. The VPN connection is still working fine and a reconnect gives me another 10minutes.
I can make a PPTP VPN direct to the SBS 2000 server on the same network and TS stays connected until I request a disconnect.
Direct ethernet connection static IP
SME 5.5 Server only
PPTP VPN is made to the SME box via a Port Forward thru an Alcatel Speedtouch Pro, if I keep the activity up the VPN connection stays active otherwise the VPN connection dies after 60 seconds. I suspect the Alcatel router is not passing some packets along.
Anyone had similar experiences they have found a solution for?
Thanks for your time

It seems we have the same problem. I too use a Alcatel DSL router.

Interesting - may have similar issue with 2k server pptp vpn to 2k server pptp vpn via speedtouch adsl - got round it by running a utility called trayping which pings the other end every 20 seconds otherwise it would always die at night (continuos traffic during day)
cheers

Does sound like the vpn passthru on the alcatel is not doing the job properly, did a very similar 30sec ping keep alive as a workaround. So this sounds more like a Alcatel VPN passthru issue rather than client or server issue thanks for the feedback guys.
