Dear All,
I upgraded to 5.6 at the weekend, & I'm gettiing strange problems. Previously, when I shut the machine down, it would turn off automatically. After the upgrade, the following happens:
1. "Power down" appears on the console, but the machine doesn't shut down. I have to use the power switch to turn it off.
2. When I turn it on again, the fans start & the CD drive whirs, but nothing else happens.
3. If I take the power cable out & put it back in again, the machine starts booting. Just before it starts to look for a boot image, I get an ECC memory error, saying "Press F1 to disable NMI, F2 to reboot". If I press F1, the machine carries on & boots.
The machine is an IBM x200. The nice IBM man who helped me get it going again said there's no mention of the memory error message anywhere in IBM's documentation.
Any ideas? At worst, how can I disable the auto power down?
Thanks in anticipation.
