Title: Big Brother & SME
Post by: Jason Lemm on May 19, 2003, 04:24:35 PM
Hi,

I'm trying to install the Big Brother (http://bb4.com/) software for SME but I am currenty getting 403 Forbidden / Permission Denied in the bowser. It's all working fine if I view the HTML files through Midnight Commander but not Internet Explorer. Seems that I cannot access the files via symlink outside of the document root. The symlink I created was:

  ln -s /home/e-smith/files/users/bb/bb19c/www/ /home/e-smith/files/primary/html/bb

The files where the symlink points to are owned by the user "bb", but they have to be otherwise they wont be able to be updated by the bb daemon I guess. So this is where I am stuck :-(

Please help

Kind regards,
Jase

Hi thanks for your reply!! Was VERY quick :-)

Ok I just took a look at that and tried the chmod on the files but still a problem. If I need to turn on FolowSymlinks, any idea where in the httpd.conf it goes? I had a look earlier but couldnt work it out. I am familiar with the template system so theres no problem there. Just dont exactly know what file I need to create the template under.

Thanks
Jase

Hi Harald

I did EVENTUALLY manage to get Big Brother working on SME but it was very complicated and I cannot remember everything I did. I remember installing it into the "files" directory of an ibay though and I had to install the patch which allows user login. The only problem we have is that the services of Big Bro keep dropping out randomly anything from an hour to 3 hours. The "runbb.sh restart" requires a kick everytime this happens which is most annoying.

Thanks Jason, I dont think I will go that way then.
Wich leaves me looking for a nice app. that will allow me to monitor some servers and connections.
It can be a simple app. I only need to know if they are UP and maybe what the delay is.
I
Many thanks anyway......

Anyone ever got something like this working?

I'm looking for a tool to monitor some services(pop, smtp, www, etc) on a few hosts on the internet.
