Has anyone tried to install E-Smith on a Conpact Flash card. Can it be installed in 500 Meg or 1 Gig space.
Thought a firewall not having a disk drive spinning would be nice.

Greg,
Wouldn't the cost of the CF end being more than an actual firewall device ?

Hi Greg,
E-Smith is much more than a firewall, and is not prepared to run in a Compact Flash. CF hava a write limit and if you store logs and /var and swap in it you would ruin it in a couple of moths, besides being much slower.
There are some firewall products that run in CF, actually we have developed one :) Besides, just for HD firewalling smoothwall is a better product than SME.
Hope it helps. Regards.

I can't remeber where I saw this, so you'll need to do some googling, but you can get a linux firewall to boot and run completly of a single floppy.

Hi Per,
Using such a hardware is not the solution. Doesnt matter where you run it, if you use a CF in a stock SME you will ruin it in say 3 or 4 months. Pretty much custom modifications are needed to achieve that.

There is a floppy-router called fli4l. You can run it from a single floppy or from a flash-disk. I used to run it with the sme for years. It is very easy to configure. You will find it at www.fli4l.de/e_index.htm
