Title: VPN with Modem Router
Post by: Leon on May 16, 2001, 01:02:09 AM
I have been trying to setup VPN on verson 4.1 and the win 98 client could not connect. I have the 128 bit encryption pakage installed but the host kept disconnecting me. When I checked the e-smith server , it said there was no PPP support. So I did a "modprobe ppp" and I got a bunch of unresolved symbol errors
related to slhc module. I thought by doing the modprobe  it would load the required modules in order ??
Some of the errors:
/lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_compress_Rcfd3a418
/lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_remember_R07972313
/lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_init_R1ca65fca
/lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_toss_Ra152cec0
/lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_free_Rb99033d9

Also I did set the router to route all pptp request to this server. IS there something Iam missing. Also Iam curious why the ppp modles required did not load during setup ? Is it becausde I do not have a modem connected to the server , but a Modem router on the network. Any help ??

Thanks In Advance

Since you'll be using E-smith with VPN, you should upgrade to version 4.1.2 There are some big problems in 4.1.1 and VPN features. See the release notes for 4.1.2 . When using 4.1.1, I was not able to connect using and valid username and password.

Good luck!

Upgraded to 4.1.2 and your right, I can establish a connection. Now I get a " No Domain Server available" error .

Does the E-Smith box I connect to have to be the domain server for this to work in a domain enviroment ?

Ok I have the domain working I think , well I do not get the error anymore. The Docs for e-smith say the connection willl show up in my network neighborhood , but when I open it , it shows nothing and Iam not allowed to browse ??
Sorry for all the  questions, but Iam pretty new to this
Thanks
