Title: Dynamic DNS and Domain setup
Post by: Rob Antonishen on May 16, 2001, 02:22:17 AM
Hi.

I have read the docs and searched through the forums and can't find a clear answer, so here goes...

I am planning to use e-smith with a dynamic DNS provider.  As an example I will use dyndns.org. Assume I have set up an account there called bob.  This means that my IP will be reached by anyone on the internet by bob.dyndns.org, right?

So...when I create the e-smith server, I am prompted for a domain name and a system name....do I make my Primary domain name dyndns.org and my machine name bob? (I think this is wrong..) or do I set my primary domain as bob.dyndns.org and set my machine name to e-smith (I am guessing this is right.)

Would the second allow me to set up www.bob.dyndns.org, ftp.bob.dyndns.org, etc as an alias all to the one machine e-smith.bob.dyndns.org?

Looking for an answer...

Rob.

Nearly - if (and only if) you have set up the domain on dyndns.  For example, my domain (hillis.dyndns.org) is kept under another account name)

The latter, yes - or at least, that's the way I've set it up.  :-)
