Title: securing smtp for spam
Post by: Mike on June 06, 2003, 04:15:20 PM
Hi Guys,

I'm using newly installed SME 5.6 with IMP 3.2.1, my pop3 and imap is open to public, how do I secure that 2 services. Also how do I protect my smtp services to the spammers...

Regards,

Mike

If it's an otherwise-default installation, you aren't running an open relay, so spammers can't hijack your server to send spam to other places.  For POP and IMAP, they're only open to the public if you've set them to public access in the "other e-mail settings" page in the server manager.  If you don't want them open, change them to "private".

Hi,

Check http://www.pagefault.org/code/e-smith.shtml#securemail

Here you'll find some rpms for ssmtp. So you can secure your smtp server by making members log in to your smtp server first and after that they can send mail.
