Title: Gateway and email problems

Posted this as a reply in General Discussion, but hoping for more visibility here. Hope that is ok.

My problem is accessing external pop accounts when using SME (both 5.5 and 5.6) as gateway.

Here's my setup:

DSL on 192.168.1.1 (router from DSL provider)

SME external nic 192.168.1.100 with 192.168.1.1 as gateway

SME internal nic 192.168.57.1

User nic 192.168.57.100 with 192.168.57.1 as gateway.

User can surf the web without a hitch, but when he tries to access his pop accounts on a thirdparty server, mailclient cannot connect.

Why?

If I hook user up directly to the router, with IP 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.1 as gateway, then everything works, so it's not a port issue in the DSL router. It only happens when he's sitting behind SME.

I really hope someone can help, as this is driving me nuts.

why is the server in gateway mode?
you're asking for trouble by having two gateways - just have your dsl router as the gateway and setup the sme box in server only mode on 192.168.1.2
